Rein has extensive technology knowledge and background with positions held in the private, public and higher education sectors. Specializing in the areas of project and technology transfer management, business consulting, development of partnerships, technology commercialization, incubation of start-up and spin-off companies, extensive pan-European network for research and technology transfer and business and business environment.

  • PhD in engineering physics (St.Petersburg Technical Unviersity, Russia).
  • More than 30 years of general professional experience as an university researcher, developer, lecturer and faculty manager in natural and educational sciences and engineering.
  • Profound knowledge and proven experience in development and management of human resources, research, business and innovation in public and private sector organizations.
  • Proven experience in local, national, regional and EC-financed projects in the field of Strategic Innovation Development, Knowledge and Technology Transfer, Business Development Support for SMEs, development of entrepreneurial approach in HEIs & PROs and development of innovation support infrastructure and measures.
  • More than 15 years of professional experience in implementation of triple helix model measures, research & development in research organizations, technology transfer and commercialization.
  • Proven professional skills in the field of training and mentoring pertaining to technology-transfer infrastructure and intermediary organizations for innovation support in business.
  • Profound experience as a Team Leader and Key Expert in complex EU-funded Technical Assistance Projects in innovation and technology development fields:
    • EU IPA project "Science and Innovation Investment Fund", Croatia. The project contributed to 1) capacity building in technology transfer and 2) commercialization of research results of higher education institutions and public research organizations and its impact on regional development.
    • EU IPA project "Institutional Capacity Development of 3 Innovation Centers and the Research Sector" Bosnia and Herzegovina. Implementation of background studies (innovation system in BiH (incl. FBiH and RS); institutional and individual capacities/capabilities of Innovation Centres (ICs) in Mostar, Banja Luka and Zenica; implementation of developed operational plans including national and international partnership building, mentoring development of studies for potential innovation partnerships.
  • Considerable international experience in the Baltic, Scandinavian and Balkan countries besides Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
